SOMA West Farmers Market at Eagle Plaza to launch July 16th to bring fresh food and community together in SOMA

SOMA West Community Benefit District is excited to announce the 2022 pilot season of the SOMA West Farmers Market at Eagle Plaza. The certified farmers market is the result of the close partnership and months of preparation with the Friends of Eagle Plaza, the LEATHER & LGBTQ Cultural District,  SF Eagle Bar,  HQ, neighborhood residents, and support from the San Francisco Office of Economic and Workforce Development.

The newly created Eagle Plaza is at the intersection of 12th Street and Harrison. It is the first Leather-themed public space: a neighborhood community gathering space managed in support of San Francisco’s Leather, Fetish, Kink, Queer, and LGBTQ culture and community. Eagle Plaza will serve as the backdrop for a family-friendly weekly Saturday market which will feature a selection from 12 vendors offering flowers, coffee, produce, sustainable seafood, and craft food items from vendors like Medina Berry Farms, Four Star Seafood, PastaRey Foods, Silverwings Coffee, Gumbo Social, and Yes Pudding. Depending on the market's success and the community’s reception, the hope is to expand it next year and beyond to become a community staple.  Different musicians will perform every Saturday.

“The SOMA West farmers market will not only expand SOMA residents’ access to fresh local produce and food, but it will also give people a reason to come together and build community, and discover all that this part of SOMA has to offer,” says Erica Waltemade, one of the market organizers from SOMA West CBD.  “For example, within a few blocks of the plaza is the San Francisco Eagle Bar, a historical landmark that will start a weekend brunch service this summer; Rainbow Grocery, one of the city’s best grocery stores; District Six, the unique outdoor venue with food trucks and events happening every weekend; and of course,  SOMA’s iconic 11th Street nightlife corridor.”

The SOMA West Farmers Market 2022 will be held weekly on Saturdays from 9 am - 1 pm* from from now until October 29th. EBT payments will be accepted. A grand opening celebration is planned for July 23rd at 11 am with special guests and live music provided by Baycoin Beats.

* The market will end at 12:30 pm On the second Saturday of each month, (8/13, 9/10, 10/8) to accommodate the LEATHER & LGBTQ Cultural District and Folsom Street’s SOMA Second Saturdays Kink Art & Craft Fair event from 1 pm - 5 pm.
