Farmers Market Manager 

The SOMA West Farmers Market is seeking a Market Manager to help our farmers market be a success. This is a great role for someone who loves to interact with people, be around talented artisans and creators, and is able to keep calm and solve problems on the go.


  • Develop relationships with vendors and listen to and act on their feedback and concerns
  • Setup the market in the morning based on vendor attendance and design market layout accordingly
  • Work to coordinate with other Eagle Plaza activations with the Eagle Bar and SOMA Second Saturdays, which happen on the plaza on the same days to ensure smooth load in and out and market experience.
  • Answer questions from customers and provide friendly assistance to those who need an extra hand
  • Monitor and enforce market rules and regulations according to state and city guidelinesWork alongside others who run the market including the organizers, community volunteers, and SOMA West CBD staff
  • Identify opportunities for market growth and improvement, from marketing to events and vendors

Hours & Schedule

The Market is seasonal and will be every Saturday from July 9th to a time TBD in the fall. This role will require work each Saturday during this period of 6 hours, from 7:30-1:30pm.


Previous experience is not required, but is desirable in the following fields: customer service, hospitality, events, food service, or agriculture. Requirements: This position will take place entirely outdoors and can be physically strenuous at times. It requires setting up and breaking down the market, which includes tables, tents, cones, barricades, and more. You should be comfortable and able to lift and load equipment (up to 50 lbs) and to stand for much of the market. Request for Qualifications for Pre Qualified Artist Pool (Ongoing)

SOMA West Community Benefit District is seeking artists and artist teams residing in the Bay Area to submit qualifications for potential inclusion in a pre qualified artist pool for upcoming permanent and temporary public art opportunities. This Pre Qualified Artist Pool will be used to select artists for commissions including:

  • Murals
  • Graphic wraps of infrastructure like trash cans, benches, light poles, benches, utility boxes, etc.
  • Arts & Craft Market Vending
  • Banners / signage 
  • Community engagement projects 
  • Vacant storefront activations
  • Temporary art installations
  • Live art demonstrations at events 
  • Public space activations 

Selection Criteria

  • Artistic Merit: the application submitted represents the artist’s own original creative work. The artwork submitted reflects basic professional quality of craftsmanship, skills and techniques, professional approaches to processes and presentation, and/or communication of a unique vision or perspective.
    Professional competence: activities that indicate a professional practice, which may include, education and training as an artist, an exhibition record in art galleries, and/or non-profit art spaces, arts and craft markets, previous public or private commissions, participation in artist-in-residency programs, or other professional activities.
  • Located in the Bay Area. SOMA based artists are encouraged to apply. Exceptions will be made based on a case-by-case basis.
  • Artists that score within a competitive range will be included in our ongoing Pre qualified Artist Pool. Inclusion in the artist pool does not guarantee that the artist will be commissioned for a project.
