Spotlight: The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence & Upcoming Event: Project Nunway 11: Sanctuary

The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence is an incredible organization, founded in 1979 here in San Francisco, that has captivated audiences with its blend of drag, activism, and charitable work. With their striking attire that uses both religious and drag aesthetics, the sisters dedicate their work to revolves around spreading universal joy, advocating for individual expression, and supporting marginalized communities, and through HIV/AIDS education and outreach, the Sisters raise awareness, promote safe practices, and support those affected by the disease.

In addition to their vital work in HIV/AIDS education, the Sisters actively engage in LGBTQ+ rights advocacy. They lend their flamboyant presence to protests, rallies, and campaigns, amplifying the voices of the marginalized and striving for equality. Their vibrant participation in Pride parades and public events fosters acceptance, challenges stereotypes, and supports individuals struggling with their identities

Their efforts continue to showcase the power of activism combined with glamour and make a tangible difference in the lives of others. With chapters and affiliated organizations worldwide, the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence have extended their impact far beyond San Francisco. Their commitment to acceptance, inclusivity, and joy has touched communities across the globe.

Riding the success of their monumental Easter in the Park and Hunky Jesus contest, the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, Inc. are excited to announce Project Nunway 11: Sanctuary, in partnership with Saint Joseph's Art Society on May 26, 2023 at 1401 Howard Street, here in SoMa!

This year's fashion extravaganza will showcase the theme "Sanctuary," inviting designers to explore the concept of safety, refuge, and healing through their runway looks. Each designer gets paired up with a Sister, who will walk the runway wearing their fabulous creations.

“Project Nunway is hands down one of my favorite annual Sister events,” says Sister Roma. “I am always amazed by the creativity of these designer/sister teams, and I just know this is going to be our best year yet.”

This year's event promises to be a night to remember, with a diverse lineup of designers, entertainers, celebrity judges, and fierce models. Guests will also have the opportunity to participate in auction items, enjoy VIP experiences, and party the night away with everyone’s favorite drag nuns.
