SOMA West CBD Impact Report

Category   Operations

2024 Impact Report is full of highlights from a very full year!

As we continue to closeout and collect data from 2024, we take a moment to reflect on the incredible work accomplished by our dedicated SOMA West Ambassadors. This year was one of great strides, filled with hard work, perseverance, and a collective commitment to making SOMA a cleaner and more welcoming place for everyone.

By the Numbers: A Cleaner SoMa

Our Ambassadors tackled an impressive 250,000+ tasks, demonstrating their unwavering dedication to improving the streets of our community. Among their many achievements, one of the most notable was the removal of approximately 800,000 pounds of trash from sidewalks, alleyways, and public spaces. To put that into perspective, that’s equivalent to:

  • 65,000 pounds of trash removed every month
  • More than 2,000 pounds collected daily
  • An overall 16% increase in tasks completed compared to 2023

These numbers highlight not just the growing need for clean and safe streets, but also the increasing efficiency and impact of our team in addressing these challenges.

Key Areas of Impact

Among the various services provided by our Ambassadors, three cleaning categories stood out as the most frequently reported:

1. Street Sweeps

Our team performs daily street sweeps across SoMa, ensuring that litter, debris, and waste are promptly removed. This not only improves the neighborhood’s appearance but also prevents waste from accumulating and impacting local businesses, residents, and visitors.

2. Code Browns

It’s not the most glamorous aspect of the job, but it’s one of the most essential. Our Ambassadors respond swiftly to what we call "Code Browns", ensuring that hazardous waste is safely and effectively removed. These efforts are crucial for maintaining public health and making our sidewalks more accessible and sanitary for everyone.

3. Trash Bag Pickups

Each day, our team removes hundreds of filled trash bags from bins and collection points throughout SoMa. These routine pickups play a key role in keeping the streets clear and preventing trash overflow, which can quickly lead to bigger sanitation issues.

The Bigger Picture

Beyond the numbers, these efforts reflect a greater movement towards community pride and sustainability. Every piece of trash removed, every swept sidewalk, and every resolved sanitation issue contributes to a neighborhood that is safer, cleaner, and more inviting.

Looking Ahead to 2025

As we move into 2025, SOMA West CBD remains committed to expanding our efforts and exploring new ways to enhance the quality of life in SoMa. Whether it’s through community partnerships, increased resources, or innovative solutions, we will continue striving toward a cleaner and more vibrant neighborhood. With all of this we've also added our Safety Ambassador Task Force,

A huge thank you to our SOMA West Ambassadors for their dedication and hard work, and to our community members who support and advocate for a better SoMa. Here’s to another year of progress!
