Showtime! Oasis Mural Unveiling

Categories   Small Business SOMA Community Public Art Leather & LGBTQ Cultural District

A massive new mural was just unveiled in the district on the 2,500 square foot facade of Oasis Nightclub at 11th and Folsom.

The event drew a large crowd of spectators who welcome the new mural, the collaborative vision of some of San Francisco's most exciting artists: Serge Gay Jr., Simón Malvaez, J Manual Carmona, Elliott C. Nathan, and Christopher McCutcheon. The mural is a love letter to San Francisco's queer nightlife scene, featuring legendary drag performers, along with queer-themed details and flourishes in each artists' unique style. Each artists' style is brought together harmoniously in a dynamic composition that unifies under a red, pink, and black color scheme. The resulting work is a sumptuous, visual feast that is delightful to experience over and over again, with something new revealing itself with each viewing.

The Mural project was funded by the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence’s Queer Artists for Queer Spaces project, the Leather & LGBTQ Cultural District and Oasis Owner Drollinger’s newly established nonprofit organization, Oasis Arts.

SOMA West CBD is grateful to have played a small part in the support of this monumental project, through a donation of UV/anti-graffiti coating and for the documentation of the work. We hope that this helps keep the mural bright and beautiful for years to come, serving as a beacon to the City's queer nightlife community.

Check out the amazing coverage in the press that the project has received, and view some of the photos from the opening celebration, which was attended by Mayor London Breed, State Senator Scott Weiner, and newly appointed District Six Supervisor Matt Dorsey.
