Who Let The Dogs Out???? - Spooky Edition!

Category   SOMA Community

Even a little rain couldn’t stop the fun! On a drizzly October Saturday, SOMA residents gathered—umbrellas in hand and spirits high—for the SOMA Pet Costume Contest at Victoria Manalo Draves Park, hosted by the SOMA West Neighborhood Association.

Neighbors came together to celebrate Halloween in the most adorable way possible—by dressing up their furry, feathered, and even scaly friends in creative costumes. From tiny superheroes and spooky skeletons to pumpkin pups and dinosaur cats, the park was alive with laughter, wagging tails, and the kind of joyful chaos only pets can bring. The event was named in honor of Deborah Benedict, a long time SOMA Resident who has helped shaped our amazing community!

Despite the weather, the sense of community was palpable. Residents huddled together under tents and umbrellas, cheering on each contestant as they strutted across the lawn. It was a reminder that in SOMA, community spirit shines bright—rain or shine.

A special thank-you to SF Puppy Love, whose generous donation of over $300 in prizes made the event extra exciting for both pets and their proud owners.

Events like these capture what makes SOMA so special: neighbors connecting, sharing laughter, and celebrating the little things (and little paws) that bring us joy.

Until next Halloween—keep those costumes handy, SOMA pets!
