United Playas Newest Development

This past Tuesday, our youth of SOMA, along with leaders of the community, gathered to sign one of the main support beams that will hold together the newest community center in SOMA. This event marks a significant milestone in the development of a facility that promises to be a cornerstone of the community.

Back in May several community leaders, along with notable political figures, gathered in SOMA for a historic groundbreaking ceremony. The new community center is being constructed just two doors down from United Playaz' first location on Howard Street. Since the groundbreaking, the enthusiasm for this project has remained strong, and the recent beam-signing event has further rejuvenated the community's excitement.The new community center will boast several exciting features, including multi-purpose event spaces, educational facilities, and recreation areas such as a rooftop basketball court. Additionally, it will host art and culture initiatives, providing studios and galleries to foster creativity. 

Various community members, including Ed Moore from our Ambassador Team along with Christian Martin, our Executive Directer, were invited to leave their mark on a structure that will inspire the SOMA youth for many years to come. The signatures on the beam symbolize the collective effort and dedication of the community to create a space that dedicates itself to growth, learning, and unity.In the coming months, as the community center takes shape, it will stand as a beacon of hope and a testament to what can be achieved when a community comes together with a shared vision.
