SOMA Blooms

Category   Events

At the beginning of the month, VMD Park blossomed into a vibrant celebration of community spirit during SOMA Blooms—a neighborhood gardening party filled with joy, laughter, and hands-on learning. Sponsored generously by Rainbow Grocery, this free public event welcomed families, friends, and neighbors to come together in the name of nature, creativity, and connection.

Children raced from the planting stations to the face painting booth, their cheeks soon adorned with butterflies, flowers, and all kinds of colorful creatures. Parents and caregivers joined in eagerly, kneeling beside raised garden beds to learn the basics of flower planting alongside their kids. The day wasn’t just about digging and watering—it was about building a deeper appreciation for our urban green spaces and the community we share them with.

Volunteers from SOMA West and local gardening groups were on hand to provide guidance and encouragement, offering tips on everything from soil composition to proper watering techniques. They helped turn curious questions into teachable moments, inspiring a sense of pride and stewardship among the youngest attendees.

The event also featured free snacks, eco-friendly giveaways, and a mini photo booth where families could snap a picture to remember the day. Thanks to the support of Rainbow Grocery, the entire event was accessible and welcoming to all.

Stay tuned for more pop-up park activations and family-friendly events in SoMa this summer. Until then, keep blooming!
